Ohio is part of the Drivers License Compact. On the other hand, Michigan is not part of this multiple state agreement that requires member states to exchange information of a person moving violations they receive out of state.

Even though Michigan is not part of this DLC to share traffic violation information between state courts and DMVs, they still have their own agreements to forward this information to other states and also get informed if a licensed motorist in Michigan is cited of a ticket out of state.

According to the Michigan Department of the State, if an out of state infraction corresponds to a offense listed in Michigan law, then the moving infraction will be recorded to your driving history and assigns points as required by the MI Vehicle Code.

It seems that not only will the speeding ticket that you received in Ohio will be placed on your Michigan driver’s license but also be assigned Michigan DMV points. For 16 mph or more over the posted speed limit MI assesses 4 points.

As you know any Ohio motorist convicted of a moving violation is evaluated by specific number of penalty points according to the type of violation. For instance, a speeding ticket for going 26 mph over the speed limit should result in 2 points going on your  driver’s license. The reckless operation ticket will probably fall under the willful or wanton disregard of the safety of individual or property charge, which would be a 4 point violation. In Ohio reckless operation is considered a minor misdemeanor.

A motorist accumulating six points will receive a letter from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. With regard to car insurance rates, according to the Ohio Insurance Institute the results of driving irresponsibly, so that you receive tickets, fines, and points could affect your auto insurance rate.

The amount that your auto insurance rates could be raised depends on your insurance provider’s own rating system.

The Ohio’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles states that there is no section of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) that says convictions will ever come off of an individual’s driving record.

Your OH car insurance rate can increase if you cause an accident or have a traffic violation. The insurer can increase (“surcharge”) your insurance premium if you are at fault in an accident or if you get a lot of traffic tickets. According to the Ohio Insurance Department of Insurance, you should not be surcharged for a minor traffic infraction or a single accident that was not your fault. In addition to that, insurance premiums cannot change until your next renewal date either.

Various companies have different rules. Most companies do not consider incidents that are more than 3 years old, but some car insurance carriers will look back as far as 5 years in Ohio.

If it has been over 3-5 years since your last ticket or moving violation conviction it does not necessarily mean that your insurance provider will automatically lower your insurance rate. According to the Ohio Insurance Department of Insurance, periodically you should ask your insurance company to review your premium to be certain that you are getting the best insurance rate possible.

Indiana, your home state, and Ohio ,where you received your ticket, are both members of the Drivers License Compact. This means that the Ohio BMV will share back to Indiana’s BMV information regarding your traffic offense of this speeding ticket.

In Ohio it is a 4 point offense for driving 30 mph or more over the speed limit. In Indiana on the other hand, it is a 6 point offense speeding 25 mph in excess of the posted speed limit.

Since you are licensed in Indiana, it looks like you would receive the assessment of points in Indiana. According to the Indiana BMV moving infraction convictions, which IN has a corresponding violation, the violation will be put on your driving record along with the allotted points.

To get more information on other penalties that Ohio might give you for getting speeding ticket, contact the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and/or the court entity listed on the ticket that you received.

Kentucky and Ohio are both part of the Drivers License Compact. This means that Ohio will share your speeding ticket to Kentucky therefore it will likely show up on your KY driving record. Although Kentucky does not assess points for out of state speeding tickets, it does for other types of tickets.

Kentucky’s defensive or traffic school can be referred to by the court system and since your ticket was in OH and not KY then I dont think that you could do traffic school. The speeding ticket that you received in Ohio could affect your insurance rates in Kentucky when it shows up on your record.

Insurance providers differ on their rating system so you may contact your insurers to find out how this ticket can affect your premiums. So if you do not want to just pay the ticket and remain on your driving record you could contact an Ohio lawyer to see what options you have.

Ohio and Kentucky are both members of the Drivers License Compact. This agreement requires all member states to share all traffic infractions received by a motorist back to their home state where the person is licensed. So the Kentucky courts or Cabinet of Transportation will notify the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles about your KY ticket.

We have read in the past that Ohio does not assign points for out of state tickets, but will put the infraction or moving violations on your driving record. Ohio has changed their offense points system in the last few years so you may check with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) to get more information on how out-of-state traffic violation convictions are now dealt with.

Ohio and Pennsylvania are both part of the Driver License Compact (DLC). This means that they do share information between their licensing agencies. For Ohio this is the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

It was said that Ohio does not assign points for out-of-state traffic infractions but in the last few years Ohio has changed the state’s points system so I would suggest that you check with the BMV to get information and make sure if your speeding ticket you got from PA will be assigned points or only be noted on your driving record in Ohio without points assigned to it.

If points are assessed for the PA speeding ticket under the points system in Ohio would result in 4 points, 2 points or no points. This depends on what the speed limit that was posted and the number of exceeding mph.

Ohio and South Carolina are both part of the Driver License Compact. This means that the speeding ticket that you received from SC will be transferred from the South Carolina DMV to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, your home state and will likely be placed on your Ohio driving record.

If points are assigned to your Ohio driving record for out of state violations the state might only assess the points that the infraction would have been charged if it happened in Ohio. It has been reported that Ohio does not assign points for out of state minor moving infractions but you would need to contact with the BMV to be make sure.

If points are assigned to your Ohio vehicle driving record (MVR), you can check with the BMV to verify if taking a driving course or enrolling in traffic school will help to remove points.
